Bespoke Build Alert!

It’s been a while between posts but what better way to kick off 2020 with a bespoke build for a very special customer currently building a 120ft superyacht in Taiwan.

At Zenith we pride ourselves on having the ability to supply end users with exactly what they want to suit their application.  On most occasions our “standard build” is manipulated to create a fantastic end product meeting the specific requirements of the end user while maintaining the legendary reliability offered by incorporating an Isuzu diesel engine into every build.

With these 2 very unique units the standard build included:

  • 40 KVA – 1 Phase – 1500 RPM
  • Powered by 4BG1PVR – 4 Cylinder – 4.3L Isuzu engine
  • @MeccAlte alternator model ECP32 4L/4 – Standalone rating of 54KVA – 1 Phase
  • Manufactured and fully marinised by @Zenith Engineering

Additional accessories at the request of the end user to suit their requirements the following was included on the units:

  • Oil spinner centrifuge – For improved oil filtration.
  • Crankcase ventilation system – To recycle ventilation gases back into the air intake eliminating oil fumes dispersed into the engine room.
  • McNaught Fuel usage monitoring system fitted, supplied by Airdraulics – Fitted to each of the units to consistently provide accurate fuel usage readings.
  • Deep Sea Electronic 4510 MKII control panels with remote start capabilities.
  • To drive a hydraulic pump off the front of the units, a magnetic clutch hydraulic pump drive size SAE CC was fitted.
  • Dipsticks transferred to servicing side of the engine so all service items on the units are accessible from the one side.
  • Donaldson air cleaner fitted.

Real Journeys (TSS Earnslaw)

The TSS Earnslaw is an integral part of Queenstown’s pioneering history and to this day a Queenstown icon.

She was commissioned by New Zealand Railways to service the communities around Lake Wakatipu. Launched in the same year as the Titanic, the TSS Earnslaw’s maiden voyage was on 18 October 1912.

Zenith Engineering enjoyed working with the team at Real Journeys to be a part of powering such an iconic vessel.

Specifications for each unit supplied:

Zenith Branching Out

Over the years Zenith Engineering has developed its marine generator range, powered by Isuzu, which can achieve outputs between 6KVA to 110KVA.  Throughout this period we have been able to maintain an extremely competitive position within the market thanks to a combination of Isuzu’s legendary reliability along with the level of quality control Zenith has in its manufacturing capability.

In this particular application the end user required 120Kw of hydraulic power off the front crank shaft power take off while maintaining 90KVA of electrical power from the rear.  This was achieved by converting the Isuzu genuine marine propulsion unit UM6SD1TCX to a marine generator incorporating a Stamford UCI274G alternator rated to 170KVA.  This Isuzu propulsion engine is mechanically injected however by converting the unit to Woodward electronic governing; we are able to operate the propulsion unit as a marine generator engine.  The result has been outstanding with the tested unit achieving the required results to satisfy a well-known fisherman in Adelaide.

Since the development of this latest project in satisfying the end users unique requirements and using the above mentioned methodology we are now capable of converting an Isuzu genuine marine propulsion unit to an Isuzu marine genset achieving an output of 220KVA.
